We need to work on your georaphy

Well the weekend didn't start too great, after a pretty bad loss Friday night. The game was just really ugly, and Pat really didnt get the ball much, so it was just not a good game. Sadly, his parents were in town, and we lost, so that stunk. I really wanted him to win when his parents were here. But the loss certainly did not keep us from having a great rest of the weekend.
After the game, as usual, we went to Carmelo's for dinner, and had an awesome time! Pat's parents loved the restaurant and Pat's teammates! After a few hours of eating and drinking too much sangria, the night was over. Sat morning we woke up, went to church and then headed down south, to one of the most amazing resorts I've ever seen. The Carroll's were staying there for Sat and Sun night, and for valentines day, they got us a room there. It was so nice and we certainly had a blast. So after dinner Sunday night, after an amazing buffet, that I ate way too many calories, we went to a piano bar. We were talking to the waitress after ordering some drinks and asked her where she was from. She said to guess, and said northern europe, apparently. Well all 4 of us thought she said not in europe, so as we began guessing she starts looking at us really awkward. WE are saying things like australia and places in asia and finally when Pat said Canada, she just stopped and said, really i think we need to work on your geography. We were all like what the heck where could she be from, well it was Latvia, and we were all confused. Eventually we all figured out what happened, but I still think she thought we were all so stupid haha. Kind of funny.
Monday we had a few hours to hang out until we had to leave for Pat's practice. Unfortunately neither Pat nor I had any idea how strong the sun was, because both of us are so burnt. I mean I'm not really complaining because I love some color, but I have a feeling I am going to peel pretty bad. Lucky for Pat he always turns to tan, so not fair.
Anyway, that was our weekend, so fun, so much food, alcohol, and sun. Just perfect!

Chicken noodle soup

Well Pat is still not 100%, but he is feeling better. How does he seriously lose weight so quick, I have no idea. But i think he lost about 5 lbs in one day. Anyway today he was able to eat a little more, and so I made chicken noodle soup. Im not sure why I only make it when he's sick, cause it tastes so good. Anyway one disgusting part of the preparing part, I was cleaning and cutting up the chicken and I see this white little piece on the chicken. Thinking its like a tendon or something I went to cut it off, but it was this little piece of plastic cut out to look like an arrow. It was so nasty, I could not eat the chicken. The more and more I make dinner involving meat, the closer I become to a vegetarian. Anyway besides the chicken the soup was fantastic.
Aside from that, we had a bad day with the internet. It went out today, and it was out all day. The good part of it being out was that I managed to clean the entire house today, and boy did it need cleaning. However, it really is not fun not to have internet in europe. We have no idea, but it suddenly came on at a little before midnight. Whatever the case, Im enjoying being on the internet right now, realizing that is probably going to be short lived.
Well nothing else too exciting, besides the Carrolls coming in 2 days. Cant wait!

My honey is sick

So sad... Pat got home from practice today looking so sick. He was pale, and had the chills all over. I feel so bad for him, I hate it so much when he's sick. A couple things about him being sick. Number one, I am a nurse, so most of the time I go a little overboard with asking him way too many questions about what is wrong with him, trying to figure out what is the cause. Number two, I go way overboard with trying to make him comfortable, asking him a million questions to see if he needs or wants anything. Although i know he loves that I care, he probably thinks, woman leave me alone and let me sleep... but it is really hard for me to do. Every time he coughs or rolls over and makes basically any noise I rush into the room to check on him.
The weird thing about him feeling sick today is he usually gets home just about 9, so i called him at about 915 asking where he was. All he said was, Im so sorry if you cooked dinner, but Im not going to be able to eat it, my stomach really hurts. Even when he is sick, he is always thinking about me. He's really that nice. Anyway this is the crazy part, as soon as he said it, I immediately felt nauseated. It was crazy, like twins when they feel each others pain, hahaha, I seriously started to feel sick and my stomach hurt. Nothing we ate today was the same, so I know I am not sick. I know that is crazy, but seriously i did not feel well. The good thing is that I haven't cooked in 2 days, so this cannot be my fault! Anyway we figured it after he vomited so forcefully, I was getting a little nervous. In the 10 years that we have been together, I have never seen him vomit. So now I have. And afterward, i instantaneously felt better, as did he. He will probably get sick a few more times but, he's on toward feeling much better.
Aside from Pat being sick, things in Tenerife are going good. Pat played an away game, and him and his team pulled out a victory. Close but we won! Pat played well scoring 15 points, so that is always nice. Also this past weekend we went to the beach Saturday and Sunday, but it was really cloudy and windy, so we didn't stay long. After the beach Sunday, we decided to drive to the south and go to Jungle park. There are only about 27 white lions in the world, and at this jungle park there was one. It was pretty cool to see. A little disturbing, however, was the fact that they had so many birds, vultures, bald eagles, just to name a few. Rather than putting most of them in cages, they are shackled to the ground, allowing them about a few feet of space to walk. It really hurt my heart to see this. For some reason it just hit me a lot harder than seeing them in cages. At least they can fly in cages. Needless to say, that kind of put a damper on the trip, but it was fun nonetheless.
In other news, I just finished 2 weeks of school here, but Im going to take the next two weeks off. Pat's parents are coming on Fri, and staying for a long weekend, so we are just so excited. They are going to be able to see him play on Saturday. Last year they came, but were unable to see him play, so it's pretty exciting...i just hope he is 100% by then, which I'm sure he will be.
Well I think that is about it for now... until more exciting news comes along.

Looking forward to Fridays

Well it was another great win last night...we are undefeated in 2009. What a difference a year makes, haha. On other good news, Pats old team rosalia also won. They were great guys, so its nice to see them come together and win! Anyway, it was a tough game for Pat, he just couldn't get the ball to go in! He played good otherwise but didn't have a good shooting night. Next time! It was great to see how well his team plays together, and there is always someone new that steps up and plays great!
After the close and really exciting game, we went to our usual dinner spot, Carmelo's and ate dinner with the team. I just love it there. Everyone is so nice, and it's so relaxing, I really look forward to everything about Friday! After dinner, around 1:45, we went out to a club in La Laguna, where they usually go first after dinner. We went there last week and it was a lot of fun, so we decided to go again. My new girlfriend Aina, is so nice and we have a blast together dancing and talking(spanish). I didn't really drink last night, because I was driving, and I didn't feel like not being able to move the next day, again, haha. Regardless, it was an awesome night.
Pat is going today to a lunch with the team, because one of Tenerife's sponsers is hosting a lunchin. It should be nice for him, but I know he is tired! We didn't get home last night until 4:30, which is actually kind of early here. Anyway after that, we are going to have a fun day, maybe go to the beach. Tonight we are meeting up again with a few teamates and Aina, and going out to a new club. Should be fun, Im pretty excited.

Back to school

Today was a really great day! I got to spend most of the morning with Pat. It was nice because normally every other thursday he has to do community service with the team, but for some reason they didn't have it today. So we woke up, had our usual coffee, and then he took me to pilates. He hangs out and reads or does rosetta stone, while i spend an hour trying to make my abs rock hard, haha. Never gonna happen i realize, however it is fun trying.
So afterward, we went to my new school, which is really nice. Its not a University like Santiago, but it is a good language school, that i can take intensive classes. I'll be taking classes again 5 days a week from 10 until 1:30, so its not too long, but just long enough. This whole learning a new language is so hard, but I'm hoping if I persist, something will click!
So now, im just waiting for Pat to get home from practice, and then we will eat mexican lasagna, soo yummy, a good Rachael Ray recipe!

3 in a row!!

Well it was another great night, after another great win! After the game, we went to Carmello's and ate great food and drank too much alcohol! Most of the team went to the restaurant so I was able to meet them. All of them were so nice, so it was a great time! After dinner, which ended very late, we went to 2 different clubs. Both were a lot of fun, and I became quick friends with one of the spanish girlfriends. She is so nice, and was a blast to hang out with. Also she doesn't speak english, so it allows me to practice my spanish. Today was a very lazy day, just hanging around the house and eating junk food.
Tomorrow we are planning on going to the market in the city, and go to a new church that is supposedly right near the market. After were getting ready for the big EAGLES game, we can't wait!!

win streak=celebration

Well I know it isn't exactly a great streak... but its the first time all season Pat has won 2 games in a row!! I think this calls for a major celebration!! So last night after his game, my new friend Chelsea and I went to this italian rest. called Da Carmelos...and wound up staying for 5 hours. I didnt know it was possible to stay that long, but it was. It was a really fun night. The owner of the restaurant is Carmelo, and he is so nice. He loves the basketball team, so he loved us too. He has a daughter who works there, Ornella, but she hung out with us all night instead of working, drinking sangria and taking shots of tequila. It was so fun.  I was speaking spanish all night, so it was a great time to practice. Toward the end of the night Carmelo came and hung out with us, taking shots and drinking as well. There was another waitress there we hung out with alot,  Marcela. She is from Chile, and is the funniest woman ever. We were teaching her english words, and she was hilarious trying to use them! Just as we were about to leave, around 1:30 (we got there at 8:30) Carmelo brought out this huge bowl with a bunch of straws sticking out. I knew it wasn't gonna be good. There were cut up apples in the bowl, and a lot of alcohol. I only had a little, I really couldn't drink anymore. So we left a little bit later and walked home. Our apartment is in such a great location everything is within walking distance. So after about a 10 min walk, i got home went to bed, and slept really well. It was such a great and memorable night!
Pat got in this morning at about 9:30am, so we've just been enjoying a very relaxing day! He was soo happy to get another win, wasn't the prettiest, but in the end we won and isn't that all that really matters! Well talk to everyone soon! Hope you all had a great weekend!

Good Start in Tenerife

So Pat is at an away game, near valencia. He is playing Gandia which should be a win tonight, so we are looking forward to it. Pat left yest afternoon, so Ive been hanging out here in our new apartment still settling in. A little more cleaning, and putting things away, the apartment is almost done!
So the other day, Pat and I were driving and walking around Santa Cruz, the city we live in Tenerife, and we found a pilates studio and a gym right next to each other. So because we are in an area that I will be in a bathing suit often, I hope, i knew I was going to do one of them. So we walked into the gym, got information, looked around and left. Next we went to the pilates studio, and i was a little out of my league. I have never done a real pilates mat class, much less use the machines and contraptions they have, that quite simply look like some kind of torture contraption. So after talking, all in spanish, for about 20 min with the woman, I was roped into pilates. Yesterday was my first session with a trainer, one on one, and it was great. I really like it, and think it is going to be amazing for my back! She said the only thing for me that will be difficult in joining the group class will be the language. So after a few more one on one classes I am going to attempt a group class...we will see how that goes. And of course, on my walk home, about 20 min, it starting pouring. So i started running home, and all the way home...wow i am so out of shape its not even funny.
So after a fun workout at pilates and jogging home, I got a shower and went out to dinner with Chelsea, a girlfriend of one of Pat's teammate. She is from California, very nice, but she is only visiting. She is leaving in a little over a week, so it will be nice to spend time with her while she is here. Dinner was great, we found a MEXICAN restaurant, and although not quite like home it was good. We got a pitcher of margaritas, which tasted more like sugar slushies, but it was a lot of fun. Tonight we are getting together to watch the game, and then going to Carmelo's, the most amazing italian restaurant, and even more amazing owner and staff. They are all so great, they love the basketball team, so thats good for us!
Well so far that is about all. Im looking into spanish schools here, and i think i have found one that i may try to find sometime this week to check it out. Pat is doing well, and really loving the change. He likes all his teammates, coaches and the club. Say a little pray for his game tonight!
Talk to you soon
Amanda
